If you need help getting online, or want to help someone else get online, we have a range of support services and resources to help you.
Why get online?
The internet is a brilliant tool to help us with our everyday lives. It allows us to:
- Access services any time of day from the comfort of our home
- Find unlimited sources of information
- ‘Chat’ online to resolve queries quickly and easily
- Access our bank, housing, benefits and other accounts to manage our personal information
- Stay connected with family and friends, no matter where they are in the world
In other words, we can get stuff done without needing to go anywhere.
Help yourself get online
You may not have access to a computer, smartphone or any other device and internet connection at home. Or maybe you have a device and need a little help to get started by learning the basics such as how to:
- Use your device
- Search the internet
- Communicate online
- Transact online
We can provide you with free, one-to-one support to access the internet confidently and safely.
If you know how to get online, but you’re want to learn more and build your confidence, the Learn My Way website has more than 30 free, online courses. When you’re registering online for this service, please use centre code 3455365.

One option is for you to work through the free, online resources on the Learn My Way website with your friend or family member.
Help your community get online
If you would like to share your knowledge and support others to get online, you could volunteer to be a digital champion. Being a digital champion is about encouraging others to understand the benefits of being online and how to connect in this way. You don’t need to be a technical expert, you simply need to:
- Have a bit of spare time
- Enjoy being online yourself
- Be passionate about helping others
- Be over the age of 18
It’s also a lovely way to meet people and a great skill to add to your CV. We’ll provide you with everything you need, including free online courses and resources to support you.
